How TradingScope measures signal outcomes
Qualifying scanner results are recorded before their outcomes are known and followed using one documented methodology. No live performance figures are shown while the initial tracking period is still running.
When the sample is large enough, the planned figures will be calculated from the complete recorded set rather than selected examples.
Four kinds of numbers, never mixed
Anywhere a figure appears on this site or in the product, it is labelled with which of these it is.
Live track record
Signals recorded before the outcome was known, then followed to resolution. None published yet.
Historical analysis
A dated snapshot of past output, shown to explain the interface. Never a current view.
Backtested results
Hypothetical simulation over historical data. Assumes clean fills and benefits from hindsight.
Illustrative examples
Layout placeholders on marketing pages. They describe no instrument and no result.
How the tracking works
Recorded up front
A qualifying scanner result is recorded with its direction and levels before the outcome is known.
Followed to resolution
Recorded outcomes are filled in from market data as qualifying results resolve. The same documented methodology applies to the recorded set.
Reported whole
If figures are published, they will cover recorded winners, losses and still open results under the documented methodology.
The life of a signal
Each recorded result follows the same four stages, with its status updated at each one.
- 1
Signal detected
Conditions line up on the scan.
- 2
Recorded
The analysis is timestamped before the outcome is known.
- 3
Tracked
The setup is followed consistently from market data.
- 4
Outcome logged
The result is added to the public record, either way.

Each of these fills in from recorded live data, never from simulation.
Backtested results are not live results
TradingScope includes a backtester, and backtests are useful for deciding whether an idea is worth trying. They are not evidence of what a trader would have earned. Backtests assume clean fills, ignore slippage and costs unless modelled, and benefit from hindsight in how the rules were chosen.
Anywhere the two appear in TradingScope, simulated and live results are labelled separately, and we will never present one as the other.
Past performance, whether historical or simulated, is not indicative of future results. TradingScope does not guarantee any outcome and does not provide investment advice. Trading involves risk, including the loss of your capital.
Follow the process as the record builds
